Birth of a Nation - A Comic Novel

Aaron McGruder
Kyle Baker
In what may seem to be a familiar event Birth of a Nation opens with a Texan governor winning the race for the White House by deliberately disenfranchising coloured voters. The people of East St. Louis aren't taking this and so decide to secede from the Union to form Blackland.

The book does poke fun at both racism and electoral fraud in the USA today but also at the attitudes of the coloured community - for example an argument breaks out in the new Blackland - freshly rich from money laundering - over who should have their face on a nickel - Biggie or Tupac? A great mix of humour and serious political points from the writer of Boondocks.
