Giant Spock!
by Mark on May.01, 2009, under Action Figures, Star Trek
Joining the Star Trek Ultimate Quarter-Scale line is your favourite Vulcan, and mine, Mr Spock. Standing a massive 19 inches tall he’s in a detailed Starfleet uniform complete with phaser and communicator accessories, additional Vulcan hands, sound clips from the classic Star Trek series and a display stand… Joe, my colleague in our Edinburgh store saw it arrive this morning and in his own words ‘it’s sodding huge..’.
Supernova - Bowen’s Modern Richard Rider
by Mark on Apr.07, 2009, under Marvel, Statues
Bowen Designs have come up with another stunning, sculptured invocation of Human Rocket, Nova. At 15″ tall including the base, it’s another beautifully rendered design by The Kucharek brothers, as Richard Rider stands in all his modern-garbed glory, with clenched fists ready to face Annihilation. Classy ain’t the word…

Wolverine & The Ultimates Take Over Marvel Minimates
by Mark on Apr.07, 2009, under Action Figures, Marvel, Movies
The strange, square, little personifications of your favourite characters have gone all Marvel over at Diamond Select… ‘Series 27 of the Marvel Minimates line will feature both key players and fan-favorites: Ultimate Iron Man & Hulk, Ultimate Thor & Nick Fury, Ultimate Captain America and SHIELD Agent plus the variant Ultimate World War II Captain America. With key accessories like Thor’s enchanted hammer, Cap’s shield and removable Iron Man armor, nothing will be able to stop your Ultimate Minimate army!
Not to be outdone, the 28th wave of Marvel Minimates also delivers an all-star lineup featuring Wolverine and key characters from X-Men history. Fresh from their big-screen appearances in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this series features core characters like Deadpool and Gambit in the comic-book costumes fans have come to know and love. Series 28 includes Wolverine & Deadpool, Gambit & Psylocke, Sabretooth and a Skrull Soldier and the limited variant First Appearance Sabretooth!
Look for both of these all-star waves in the April issue of Diamond Previews and look for these in comic book stores nationwide this August!‘
Now I personally have never seen the rabid attraction of these little guys but a friend of mine goes ga-ga every time a new wave appears. I’ve offered to pay for counselling but he just throws my obsession with Adam Hughes drawings in my face. Go figure (no pun intended)…

John Connor, in the handy new 1/6 scale size…
by Mark on Mar.13, 2009, under Action Figures, Terminator Salvation
Terminator Salvation is almost upon us (look, 2 months is almost upon in my book), and we get an action figure that might actually be worth the moolah. Hot Toys have unleashed a 1/6 scale figure of the saviour of mankind, John Connor, with a pretty damn impressive likeness to Christian Bale. Even has Bale’s trademark scowl. Whether it comes with authentic on-set meltdown sounds is unfortunately unlikely. Now for the specs…
Hot Toys True-Type figure body with over 36 points of articulation. The John Connor 12 inch Figure features:
* Leather jacket
* Pants
* T-shirt
* Tactical full body harness
* Headset
* Radio with pouch
* M4 magazine pouches
* Pistol Magazine pouch
* Demolition blocks
* Drop leg panel
* Armband
* Patch
* Assault boots
* Tactical gloves
* M4A1 with tactical red dot sight
* XM-26 LSS
* Line launcher
* Pistol with holster
* Tactical fixed blade
Nice.

Terminator Salvation Website Updated…
by Mark on Mar.04, 2009, under Movies
Ok, so there’s a big superhero flick opening this week, but come May the future is coming to kick humanity’s ass in Terminator Salvation; and finally there’s been a bit of design/content updating on the official site - http://terminatorsalvation.warnerbros.com/ - including the first 2 trailers in which Christian Bale continues to do his best Jack Bauer vocal impression. The design is fairly typical of the big budget scifi movie fraternity, lots of little text tics and glyphs that don’t actually mean anything but kudos for the massive in your face trailer stream (you can choose a more low key version). Most annoying? Still no downloads, I mean come on, you can put together a nice flash site for us but you can’t make some wallpapers?
For the absolute latest trailer, released this week, click here >
In the meantime you can also check out our Terminator Salvation merch here >. And if you’re wandering by a news-stand Empire Magazine’s current ish has gone Terminator with info on number 4 and a retrospective on the 25 years since the original was released. Yes, that’s 25 years. I only retain my sanity by the knowledge that I was way too young to watch it then. Legally that is…
Dungeons and Dragons Day 2009
by Mark on Mar.03, 2009, under Events
Although it seem the world, his wife, their dog, and that strange guy that lives down at number 42 are focussed entirely on Watchmen at the moment (opens on Friday March 6 don’t you know..), another monumental event is happening this month; 2009’s Dungeons and Dragons Day. Strictly speaking it’s ‘days’ though as it’s being split into Players’ Handbook 2 (March 21), Monster Manual 2; and Dungeon Master’s Guide 2.
From Wizards.com > ‘Prepare yourself (and your friends) to join D&D fans all around the world on March 21st for Worldwide D&D Game Day: Player’s Handbook 2. Everything you need to play will be on-hand, so it’s a great chance for new players, as well as veterans, to band together and find some adventure.
Come try out the new races (such as the gnome) and the new classes (like the invoker and barbarian) while you battle wicked fiends and thwart dark plots. No matter if you’re new to the game or a 4th Edition veteran; we’ll have everything you need to embark on an all-new adventure.
The adventure, entitled One Dark Night in Weeping Briar, runs in 2-3 hours and includes five pregenerated 11th-level characters. The characters are:
Ilvarra, drow avenger
Markaria, tiefling invoker
Roswyn, gnome bard
Squeaks, warforged barbarian
Balasar, dragonborn paladin (uses material from the upcoming Divine Power product)‘
Gamingreport.com has a list of participating locations, including Forbidden Planet in Nottingham (01159 484 122).

Who’s Watching the Java…
by Mark on Feb.24, 2009, under Comics, Movies
Fear of merchandising saturation arrives with any big budget event movie, and Watchmen is no exception. However every now and then something gets produced which really tickles my fancy and lo and behold, actually does some good into the bargain. The Organic Coffee Cartel has been enlisted by Watchmen photographer Clay Enos to produce a first-of-its-kind movie tie-in coffee for WATCHMEN…
‘Introducing Veidt Enterprise’s “Nite Owl Dark Roast,” a limited-edition confection and collectible designed for fans and organic coffee gourmands alike. A majority of the proceeds from the special roast will be donated to charity.’

I’ve admittedly ordered one… whether I ever actually drink it is another question.
