Kirkman gets the characters back on track in this volume - Rick gets more focused again after recovering from his wounds and the catastrophic events of the last couple of storylines. The groups dynamic in this story has changed to that of more hardened and cold survivors of the zombie apocalypse that has befell the world, the story of the reverend is a quirky and sickening one and we also see the end of one of the regulars.
While the previous book was more sedate and introspective on Rick's and Carl's behalf, this storyline seems to be taking Rick and the group into unknown and interesting territories.
