The Complete Maus, released by Voyager, explores Art Spiegelman's Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust, told using parts of his own father's recollections of those horrific events pieced together and illustrated in a heavy-ink black and white style, with the Jews as mice and the Nazis as very nasty looking cats. Spiegelman puts elements of his own life into the narrative; as he interacts with his father and the story we see how the father influences the son, no matter how much he might like to think he is different, and how events from half a century earlier can still leave marks on those who experienced them directly and those who came after them. Utterly essential reading.
