All about this product:
Mawil's 2007 short story book sees him continue to do what he has been doing for years, produce brilliant cartooning largely ignored by non-German speaking countries. Maybe it's the fact that he cartoons in a slightly 'bigfoot' way which people don't get but he has to be one of the most natural artists working in comics anywhere. The stories seem autobiographical (may not be) and, though they may contain some real pain and tragedy, are almost always played for laughs - and Mawil is very funny.
Unusually there is some nice colour work in this volume and the stories are often as short as 2 pages, but the standout is the long story "Welcome Home" which finds the author heading of to a hippy summer camp in the hope of meeting women with an easy attitude to sex and nudity; not surprisingly there is plenty of the latter and little of the former. Terrific fun.
