Watch as Mawil goes through the East German school system prior to the wall coming down, his first visit to West Berlin after it comes down, his adventures with his much loved, first car, banger - a Skoda . His visit to a hippie commune summer camp - in search of girls and self-enlightenement and his deep obsession with the video game Hitman.
As well as a 50 page lead story this includes many of Mawil’s shorter peices. As usual, all are funny and bittersweet, a perfect portrait of growing up between two worlds. Includes some of Mawil’s colour work for the first time in an English language book.
Mawil has a huge following in Europe and is recognised as a major cartooning talent by fans and his peers; he is a 3 time winner of the German ICOM comics award for best Graphic Novel. As someone who grew up both sides of the Wall this is an interesting social document about the changes in German society since reunification.
“Beautiful cartooning that captures the energy, awkwardness and freedom of youth,” Joe Matt author of ‘Spent’, ‘That Poor Bastard’ and ‘Peepshow’.
