Along with a lot of old Who fans I was more than a little
cynical about the casting of one time pop singer and other half of Chris Evans,
Billie Piper, as the new companion for the revamped Doctor Who. And like a lot of older fans I have eaten my hat
because Billie has been, frankly, brilliant in the role of Rose Tyler alongside
both Christopher Eccleston’s brief season as the Doctor and now with David
Tennant. In fact I don’t think I could imagine anyone else in the role now –
great chemistry between the leads and a companion who in many ways is the equal
of the Time Lord, not just someone who will stand and scream at a monster until
saved.
Now with Billie about to
leave the TARDIS behind at the end of this second season of the new Doctor Who and her divorce settlement
from Evans in the papers, her autobiography is set to come out, with Billie
telling her own story. She remarked in the press of it recently; “I hope it's
an inspiration to young girls who constantly ask how I did it. It will be warts
and all.” The publishers are so confident of this book that Billie reputedly
received a six figure sum for her memoirs – somehow we suspect that many fans
will justify that faith and want this book; get it on your Xmas gift list now!
