The British Comic Awards 2014….

BCA2014-header

New year means new British Comic Awards. Granted, they’ve gone with the none to original idea of simply calling them the British Comic Awards 2014, but apart from that all is good. As with 2012 and 2013, the idea is to find the best, the most wonderful, the simply greatest comics, graphic novels, artists, and young people’s comics from the award year and put them before a judging panel of the great and the good before the winners are announced at Thought Bubble 2014 in November.

Here’s the deal; 5 awards; Best Comic, Best Book, Best Emerging Talent, Young People’s Comic Award, and Hall Of Fame. That’s it, keeping it wonderfully minimal once more. The idea is to select the absolute best of the best from all of the wonderful comics being published by UK artists out there.

The final BCA Shortlists plus the 2014 Hall Of Fame recipient, announced in early September 2014 are decided upon by BCA Committee. These shortlists are then given to our judges (for best Book, best Comic and Emerging Talent) or judged by young people from schools and public libraries around the country (for Young People’s Comic Award). The Best Comic and Best Book awards are open for works published between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014, Young People’s Comic Awards open for works published  1st August 2013 and 31st July 2014.

The Committee will obviously try to look at every single eligible work, but YOU CAN HELP. YOU can nominate ANY eligible book, comic, talent …. just fill in the form here and the BCA Committee will put it on the list to read and consider.

The British Comic Awards is not a ‘most votes win’ system. Any title only needs one nomination to be considered equally by the Committee for the shortlist.

Artists, writers, publishers, editors… you can AND SHOULD put your books up for consideration by filling in the nomination form.

So, hopefully this year, the committee will have more comics than ever to look through! Finally, to give you an idea of what to expect, here are last years winners….
