Comics: the Scarfe Bar!

Published On April 17, 2014 | By Joe Gordon | Comics, News

The great Gerald Scarfe has been celebrated with one of the highest honours that can be bestowed upon any citizen of the United Kingdom – no, not a knighthood or peerage, something even more respected and hallowed by Britons: he’s had a bar named after him. Steerpike on the Spectator reports that Scarfe has spent several months decorating the bar at the Rosewood Hotel on Holborn, London with his remarkable artwork (which includes some choice caricatures of prominent politicians). “If the Prince of Wales can have a pub named after him, why shouldn’t I have a bar?” the artist asked Steerpike. I am sure all of his fellow cartoonists and admirers will enjoy a pilgrimage to the bar – to take in the ambience and artwork of course, ahem, and not because we’re all lushes… (tip of the hat to the Pro Cartoonists blog for the link)
