Upcoming: ELCAF…. and upcoming at ELCAF…
ELCAF (East London Comics and Arts Festival) happens next weekend – 20th June, and they’re looking for a few good volunteers to help set up and run the show. People often forget how dependent comic events are on a small army of volunteers, doing the little jobs that help everything run according to plan.
If you think you can help get in touch here.
It’s the second year for ELCAF and it’s already getting a reputation for showcasing the best of the burgeoning uK scene. This year we have over 70 exhibitors, most of which we’ve featured here at one point or other. See the full list here.
Events going on at the show include;
Our own Martin Steenton hosts a panel on character design with the creator of Hilda, Luke Pearson, Felt Mistress‘ Louise Evans and Jonathan Edwards, Uncle Grandpa’s Nick Edwards and a surprise guest. Doug Wallace of Nobrow will be chairing a discussion on publishing between Emma Hayley from SelfMadeHero, Madalena Matoso from Portugese publisher Planeta Tangerina, Alex Spiro from Nobrow, author, illustrator and self-publisher Philippa Rice and Alex Bowler from Jonathan Cape.
Takayo Akiyama will be hosting a free ‘Make your own comic’ workshop for kids at this year’s ELCAF taking the audience through every stage of comic making from initial idea through to finished product with guests Tom Smith, Becky Barnicoat and Ashley May.
