You can never have enough Tati in your life, and for that reason, I’m sure you will forgive me for pointing you towards this wonderful little commercial that French filmmaking duo Agnès Doolaeghe and Franck Mallez created for the Parisian luxury menswear brand, Berluti. Featuring Jacques Tati’s iconic silhouette, the short film presents an evocation of all things Paris, from bohémien chic to bespoke style.
Presented by fashion blog Nowness, the film is a cute little ditty that combines a very timely sense of nostalgia (in addition to Tati, it also gives more than a subtle wink to Saul Bass) with some very inventive animation. Also, it is not the first time that Berluti uses cartoons in its branding : on its website, Ted Benoît provided illustrations to explain Berluti’s concept of bespoke tailoring, while large illustrations by Sempé were used to obscure Berluti’s new Rue de Sèvres store while it was being refurbished.
Also, if the Tati figure in the film seems familiar, it was indeed designed by Tati artist extraordinaire David Merveille, as can be seen on his blog.
