From our continental correspondent – the Helsinki Comics festival wants you
It may be a long way away, but taking place from September 6th to the 8th, the 2013 Helsinki comics festival will take place. This year, special themes are children’s comics and comics from North America.
Not much information is out as yet as to guests or exhibitions, but the festival management has already announced that they are offering international exhibitors free sales spots in the main festival tent or in the Small Press Heaven (and provide accomodatation while in Helsinki). Contact Maura Manninen for more info.
This year’s edition will be the 34th edition of the largest comics event in Northern Europe, with an expected turnout of 20,000 visitors. Given the growth domestically and on the international scene of comics culture from Scandinavia it’s one we should probably be paying more attention to. The site also has a call out to artists native or living in Nordic and Baltic nations for entries for children’s comic strips, with some decent prize money and inclusion in an anthology on offer.
