Events: Will Morris and Edward Ross at Stripped
We’ve already been flagging up some of the fantastic range of comics events to be had during the Stripped segment at this summer’s Edinburgh International Book Festival, but it’s worth picking out some more little gems to shout about (and there is a lot to shout about in Stripped!). One of the things I’m very much appreciating is the real mix of talent, so in among major league names like Grant Morrison and Neil Gaiman for instance, we have younger talent getting their chance to shine in front of a book festival audience (no pressure then, guys!).

Younger talent, but certainly not unknown – not to us and not to our regular readers (who have such impeccable reading taste, naturally) – one event I’d like to draw your attention to features two locally based creators, Will Morris and Edward Ross. Ed has produced quite a few of his own works, including the fascinting Filmish series that I’ve reviewed on here before and also using his comics illustration skills with other collaborators (including top SF novelist Ken MacLeod) to make scientific subjects accessible and easily understandable, while Will’s recently published The Silver Darlings (from Blank Slate) is a simply gorgeous piece of work that’s garnered praise from critics and peers alike, and, I think, one of those graphic novels you can give even to friends who normally don’t look at comics, which makes it perfect for a book festival audience.

Will and Edward will be taking their double act to the stage at the Edinburgh Book Festival as part of Stripped on Friday August 23rd from 3.30 to 4.30pm. Festival goers, check out some up and coming new talent, Edinburgh area comickers, come along and support locally based talent!
