British Comic Awards; Young People’s Comic Awards Winner is ….. Garen Ewing!
The 2nd annual British Comic Awards take place tomorrow evening at Thought Bubble, but an integral part of the awards actually took place today, with the Young People’s Comic Awards presented in front of an invited audience of some of the 17 groups of pupil judges involved in choosing the winner.
And that winner is the wonderful Garen Ewing with his Complete Rainbow Orchid.
It’s a fantastic reward for this artist who’s been working on the Adventures of Julius Chancer for many years now, and has been receiving plentiful accolades and high praise along the way for this wonderfully involved and involving adventure series drawn in classic ligne claire style. I can’t speak for Garen but I have a sneaking suspicion that he’ll be very, very proud of this one, seeing as it was decided by a large number of children.
We’ve been taking part at my primary school, and it’s been really popular with our 9/10/11 year old judges. One little boy, a poor reader normally, absolutely plowed through it, so quickly in fact that myself and his class teacher didn’t think he’d read it. He quickly disabused us of that thought when he proceeded to describe, with great excitement, exactly all the thrills and spills he’d enjoyed. That’s the infectious excitement of a good adventure, and Ewing has got every bit of that onto the comics page.
Congratulations to Ewing and everyone of the Young People’s Comic Awards nominees….
