Vworp Vworp! Comic Book Adventures in Time and Space

This coming Saturday (the 18th of October) sees the Vwoorp Vwoorp! Comic Book Adventures in Time and Space Doctor Who event in Lass O’Gowrie pub as part of the Manchester Literary Festival. Billed as effectively being an all-day mini-convention with a special emphasis on Doctor Who in the comics, guests include Dez Skinn, John Freeman, Paul Cornell, Gary Russell, Tony Lee, Ian Edginton, D’Israeli and more. And for those who are not so familiar with Who in comics form, ‘vworp!’ (or ‘Vvoorp’ as the Literary site has it), is the sound effect used in the comics to denote the distinctive sound the TARDIS makes as it materialises and its kind of made it into popular fan culture (I seem to recall the small humour strip which used to appear in the old Doctor Who mag used it for a gag involving time sickness at one point).

Elsewhere in the Manchester Literary Festival there’s more for SF&F readers – Russell T Davies is still on the circuit with his new book and will be appearing at the MLI on Monday 20th, Posy Simmonds on Friday 17th (discussing children’s books rather than her graphic novels by the looks of it), Sunday 19th sees Paul Grist, Hannah Berry and Bryan Talbot in conversation with Paul Gravett, and top British SF writer Stephen Baxter will be appearing on Monday 26th; check the MLI site for more details.

  1. John Freeman says:

We’ve been challenged to talk about the best and worst of times, trawl up memories from barely functional brain cells, and will be interrogated by a Dalek for Doctor Who secrets. I think it’s going to be fun!

  2. Joe says:

John, you mad time-hopping fool you, be careful what you say, its probably all an elaborate trap by the Master to suck information from your brain for his own dastardly purposes :-)
